At the top of  Jamberoo Mountain there are some wonderful views and walks. Display boards and brochures of these walks are available.

The reserve is located on the Ilawarra Plateau with a fully sealed access road.

The Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and is the home to a diverse array of wildlife including the threatened Ground Parrot, Eastern  Bristlebird and the Long-nosed Potoroo.

The Reserve has been protected for over 40 years and boasts over 500 species of plants  in  heathland, woodland, wet sclerophyll  forest and rainforest, with over 150 species of birds. 

 
 If you are coming from Moss Vale turn right at the Pie Shop after Robertson and follow the Tourist Route 9 signage.

From Kiama or Wollongong follow Tourist Route 9 signage on the eastern side of Jamberoo.
